Kommentar: The author is Abbé (Antoine François) Prévost (1697-1763). This is an historical novel claiming to the authored by the bastard son of Cromwell, who is not portrayed in a particularly flattering light. It was probably inspired by Prévost’s time in London in the late 1720s. This type of obscuring of the author is typical of the time, and also used by f.ex. Daniel Defoe (Robinson Crusoe was originally also claimed to be written by “Himself”).
