Utgitt: London,
1892-1894
Large 8vo. xxviii, xxvi, 1906 pp. (running pag.) Beautiful contemporary half calf with gilt tooling and marbled edges. Richly illustrated in black & white and with colour plates. Frontispieces in colour. A folding plate of Old London Bridge as frontispiece in vol. 3. Bookplates, ex libris. Some foxing on flyleaves, otherwise a very nice set.
Kommentar: John Richard Green (1837-1883) was an English historian. Green’s aim in this work was to focus on the people of history, not its kings and queens. In his preface he wrote “It is the reproach of historians that they have too often turned history into a mere record of the butchery of men by their fellow-men. But war plays a small part in the real story of European nations, and in that of England its part is smaller than in any.”
