William Hogarth (1697-1764) was an English engraver, painter and illustrator. This work by Ireland is an analysis of about 100 of Hogarth’s prints. In the introduction Ireland writes: “Where the artist has been made a victim to poetical or political prejudice, without meaning to be his panegyrist, I have endeavoured to rescue his memory from unmerited obloquy.”
