Gentleman’s Magazine (1731-1922) was an extremely popular monthly periodical in its hayday in the 18th century. It was intended to cover every topic of interest to the public in one handy publication. It made Cave rise from very humble beginnings to becoming a rich man at the end of his life. Samuel Johnson was a frequent contributor.
