Congo. Photographs by André Cauvin.

Utgitt: n.p., Willow, White & Co.,
1945
4to. 190, (3) pp. Publisher’s full cloth with dust jacket and clear plastic jacket cover. Author’s dedication on fly leaf: “ To … who has seen wilder jungles in civilized minds – with friendship John Latouche”. Richly illustrated in black/white. Tears in dust jacket, otherwise very nice.
Kommentar: Mr Latouche, to quote him, is “not advancing any economic or colonial theories. I am interested in conveying the spirit of a gradually awakening Africa. The Belgian Congo is significant as a kind of test-tube of this awakening, and to see it clearly, without the emotional hangover of the ‘imperialist’ idea impairing a clear vision, is especially important today to an America disturbed by racial tensions. I have no sympathy for imperialist thought, but that is the smallest factor of the drama taking place in the Congo.”
